Ep 048: You Keep Using That Word: I do not think it means what you think it means

In this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the 5th Doctor story Enlightenment, and then have a discussion on how asexuality is defined in the media and how that conflicts with real life experiences.

For our Enlightenment review, we discuss costumes, continuity, and the Creepy Dude. How did Tegan handle herself under such odd scrutiny, what was Turlough really up to, and how does the Doctor stack up, being an Ephemeral himself?

In our asexuality discussion, we break down the difference between media’s version of asexuality, and the real life use of the word to describe people on the ace spectrum. What results from using perceived asexuality to “other” a character in fiction? And how have other characters in Doctor Who contributed to the perception of the Doctors sexual and romantic orientations?

Ep 047: Another Song Ends

In this episode of the Web of Queer, we review the Christmas special The Husbands of River Song, and discuss an overview of Series 9.

For our review of The Husbands of River Song, we discuss the Doctor's reunion with River. What do we think of this picture of what River is like without the Doctor around? What did we think of River's many husbands (and wives)? Did we like this Christmas romp?

In our Series 9 overview, we look back at the series as a whole, now that it is complete. Did we like this structure of two-parters? What did we think of the tone of the series? Are we happy with the series arc, now that we've seen it concluded?

Ep 046: Hell of a Companion

In this episode of the Web of Queer, we review the series 9 finale Hell Bent, and draft some fictional characters to fill the vacancy in the Tardis.

In our Hell Bent review, we talk about The Doctor's return to Gallifrey. What do characters like The General mean for the show, and who is voting for a Clara/Me spinoff?

In our fictional character discussion, we decide who we would pick to fill the excellent shoes left by Clara’s departure. What universe are they from, how would they react to the adventure, and how would they get along with the 12th Doctor?

Ep 044: (Only) Doctor Who Is Required

In this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the penultimate episode of series 9, Heaven Sent, and the First Doctor story The War Machines.

For our review of Heaven Sent, we discuss this unusual episode. Did we like Capaldi's solo performance, and how the story was constructed? What do we think is next after that reveal at the end?

In The War Machines we encounter Dalek-like machines and 60s computing. How did the War Machines compare to the Daleks? Did the questions and concepts around artificial intelligence hold up to present day? What did we think of our first glimpse of Dodo, Ben, and Polly?

Ep 043: Face The Erasure

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the tenth episode of series 9, Face the Raven, and have a discussion about bi erasure.

In our review of Face the Raven, we discuss the apparent end of Clara's story. What did we think of how her death was handled? Were we surprised to see Me again? Did we like of the concept and execution of the trap street?

For our bi erasure discussion, we talk about the passive bias that has removed bisexual/pansexual people from the queer narrative, and what might be causing it. How does Clara’s story fit the bi erasure tropes we have seen? What harm can come from erasing a whole section of queerdom, and what can be done to fix it?

Ep 042: No More Mind

On this episode of The Web of Queer, we review the 9th episode of series 9, Sleep No More, and the Sixth Doctor classic story, Mindwarp.

For our Sleep No More review, we discussed the diverse cast of characters on the show, including 474, the character played by Bethany Black. What did we think of her role, and how the other characters in the story treated her? Did we like the idea of the Morpheus pods and how did we think the narrative held up as a whole?

For our Classic review, we continue the Trial of a Timelord series with Mindwarp. Court scenes, a Brian Blessed debut, and corporate slug overlords fill out the story, but how full was it? Did we believe the Doctor was really affected by the machine? And what do we think of Peri’s storyline?
